20 July Graduate Camp_May 2006Stephen and I went to our first camp in BJ in May, and it was also his first time to deliver a talk in Mandarin. Haha, it was quite difficult for him and thus quite a number of audience couldn't help sleeping........it was blessed for us to have lots of conversation with graduates and undergrads here, and we hope it is a good start for our ministry :).
One of the things we need to learn is to adapt to the relatively poorer environment here. This time we went to a military training campsite for our stay, and you can guess the living condition is quite poor: toilets without daily cleaning, & every day only 5-6pm is allowed to have a shower....but the food was quite ok. We were actually served by the military people, and they were really authoritative to us at the beginning. We needed to queue up for entering into the lunch place, and were not allowed to speak during our meal. Interesting!
Before we left, we clapped hands to thank for their services. These strong soldiers' faces suddenly became red as they were embarrassed to receive our appreciation! Hope they would remember us! 17 July ChurchPicnic_May2006On May 6, Carmen went to a picnic with church friends ( while Stephen was too tired to join it), and we went to a place called 龙庆峡, which is located at the very northern part of BJ. The admission fee is very high when comparing to the local living standard: RMB 100 ( a secondary school teacher can only earn about RMB 2,000 a month!) For those who come from the south like us, it is quite easy to see rivers. However, for people from the north, they are very excited to see them! |
